Stretching thousands of kilometers, the Great Wall is highly symbolic of China as a nation and civilization. Unlike the Hadrian Wall, the Great Wall had been constructed, abandoned, and restored under many different dynasties. It is also a more complete defense system and architecturally more styled. After centuries of natural and human destruction only a small portion of them remain in fair shape. In the last few decades, the Chinese government rebuilt a few sections of the Wall to their original specifications. Within two hours' drive from Beijing are also partially restored, emergency restored, and unrestored sections that can be visited. The pictures on the right showcase a few sections: Jinshanling, Simatai, Gubeikou, Jiankou (Arrow Nock), and Huangyaguan. Some may no longer be open to tourists. So check with local authorities if you plan to visit them alone. We organize half-day and full-day learning tours to the Great Wall. Rates will be quoted once itinerary, number of attendees and transport are confirmed. Please e-mail us to inquire about a tour. If you require more than a clean, non-smoking coach service please state so clearly in your message. |
